Philosophy Wire: Hot cold space, galaxy, non-perception...

galaxy_cocoon_thumb[1]Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2012-10-04]: Researchers found that our "Milky Way" galaxy is cocooned inside an enormous cloud of hot gas. Heated to more than 1 million degrees Celsius, the halo extends more than 300,000 light-years from the galactic center and contains at least as much mass as 10 billion suns, scientists report in the Sept. 1 Astrophysical Journal Letters. An international team of astronomers used NASA's orbiting Chandra X-ray Observatory to detect hot, charged oxygen atoms. [source: web news] How weird... The vast cold space is actually a too hot gas - too expanded for us to "know" we are inside an oven of million degrees Celsius. Our perception of "reality" fails yet another test...
